Welcome to Trillium Dorper Ranch in beautiful Renfrew County, Canada, home to some of the most pristine lakes and forests in North America. It’s also home to some highly fertile farmland, dotted here and there by quaint little towns and villages full of friendly people waiting to show visitors around. Visit one of the many historic sites or antiques shops, experience the great country dining, or adventure down the mighty Ottawa River in some of the continent’s greatest whitewater rafting. And just a short 30-minute drive from Trillium Dorper Ranch are all the sights, attractions and amenities of Ottawa-Gatineau, Canada’s national capital region. Welcome to the Trillium Dorper Ranch’s website. Come back often as the information on our site will be updated frequently.

For 2008, we hope to build on our successes of 2007 and the things we have learned along the way. We’re also very pleased to announce that we have recently bought the Woolly Acres flock from Lynn McKay in Kingston, Ontario, and while we’re sad to see Lynn leave Dorpers to pursue other goals, we’re honoured that she felt her “babies” would be best-cared for on our farm. We’re excited to have such beautiful sheep join our flock and look forward to offering our clients ever-more diverse, top-quality genetics.

In August, 2008, we will be moving from our 10-acre Renfrew location to 100-acres near the town of Ashton, in City of Ottawa limits. We look forward to having our customers, new and old, come see our new facilities and energy-efficient home, and of course, our Dorpers!

We’re very proud of the Dorpers we breed. Our breeding program is designed to produce the best quality Dorpers available in North America. We started with some of the best foundation ewes and rams on the continent and some of the most diverse genetics around, with top South African, Canadian and American bloodlines to work with. Our aim is to produce Dorpers that display perfect conformation, good temperament, high fertility and excellent weight-gain ratios. To ensure that all our animals are as healthy as possible, they undergo an annual veterinary inspection which includes continued testing for Canada’s national Scrapie program, the Ontario Maedi Visna program, as well as any general sheep ailments. They also undergo scheduled vaccinations against diseases common to our climate. We are very proud of the fact that our flock has always been free of all diseases.

Dorpers are considered to be some of the best foragers and feed converters in the world. They grow very quickly, they’re adaptable to any climate and fare well in extreme temperatures, they shed their tight winter coat in the spring and therefore require no shearing, and most importantly, they produce a high-quality meaty carcass. They’re an ideal breed for a low-maintenance livestock operation, and produce great returns, whether you’re interested in commercial production or breeding stock.
