The Family Eric & Janie both grew up in the country, but spent several years living in the city while attending
college and working. However, it wasn’t long before their strong love of nature drew them back to
their roots.
Janie grew up on a small farm – in fact, the very same farm where Trillium Dorpers had its
beginnings, at our former location in Renfrew, Ontario. Janie has an academic background in law
and early childhood education, while her farming and shepherdess experience comes from Eric has always been fascinated with animals and brings with him a wealth of experience from his professional career with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. He has worked on the Central Experimental Farm, a National Historic Site and working research farm in the heart of downtown Ottawa. His access to countless agricultural professionals and the largest collection of agricultural resources in Canada is fundamental to the success of Trillium Dorper Ranch and its clients. Equally important to our breeding program is the invaluable experience brought to the farm by Janie’s father and grandfather, our neighbour & friend, Mr. MacDonald, and our vet, Dr. Cavan. All have extensive knowledge of shepherd practices and have been instrumental in making Trillium Dorpers a success. Our family also includes many pets. Our cats help keep the mice away and are always first at the door to greet our visitors, while our Maremma keep those “unwanted” visitors away. Our Dorpers and other farm animals are all considered a part of the family – as such, they are treated with love and respect and are always cared for to the best of our ability. We’re always happy to show you our Dorpers, answer some questions and “talk sheep”, so come
by for a tour and meet the family! |
