Welcome
Welcome to the Trillium Dorper Ranch website. Our farm in Ashton, Ontario, is located only 20
minutes from Ottawa – Canada’s national capital – and 10 minutes from the town of Carleton
Place in the lowlands of the Jock River. Our 100-acres of pristine farmland consists of pasture,
orchards, cedar forests and a small creek, our new energy-efficient home, a modern-day coverall
alongside century-old log barns, and is home to our flock of top-quality Dorper sheep.
We’re very proud of the Dorpers we breed. Our breeding program is designed to produce Dorpers
that meet or exceed the Breed Standard of Excellence, to produce Dorpers that display perfect
conformation, good temperament, high fertility and excellent weight-gain. Our careful selection of
top-quality genetics, calculated breeding program, instinct and experience have led to noticeable
consistency in style, balance and conformation, shedding ability and sound udders in our ewes.
To ensure that all our animals are as healthy as possible, they are raised strictly on pasture and
receive high quality hay in winter. We are very proud of our naturally-raised, happy and healthy
Dorper flock.
Dorpers are considered to be some of the best foragers and feed converters in the world. They
grow very quickly; they’re adaptable to any climate and fare well in extreme temperatures; they
shed their tight winter coat in the spring and therefore require no shearing, and most importantly,
they produce a high-quality meaty carcass. They’re an ideal breed for a low-maintenance
livestock operation, and produce great returns, whether you’re interested in commercial
production or breeding stock.
Trillium Dorpers is pleased to offer select fullblood breeding stock suitable for all operations,
whether you’re a commercial breeder or someone looking to produce champions in the showring.
We invite you to explore the other sections of our website for more information on our operation
and the Dorper breed. You may also wish to contact us or better yet, come by for a visit!

** Maremma puppies available Fall 2010 – Reserve Now **
Welcome to the Trillium Dorper Ranch’s website. Come back often as the information on our site will be updated frequently.
2009 proved to be an eventful year for us as we settled into our new house at our new 100-acre farm in rural Ottawa, near the town of Ashton, Ontario. The house still requires some minor finishing work, but is for the most part complete. The coverall structure is up, with plans to build the endwalls in summer 2010. Fencing continues, lambing is going well, and an early spring means an early start to all the other things that need to get done!
For your reading pleasure, we have added some information on our new energy-efficient home and environmental farm practices in the new Environment section of our website. Please don’t limit yourself to our website – we encourage you to come by and visit our new facilities, and of course, meet our Dorpers!
We’re pleased to announce that our two Maremma livestock guardian dogs will be having their first litter in early July, with puppies ready to go 8 weeks after that (September 2010). Our two dogs are great guardians – gentle with the kids and visitors, yet attentive when unwanted wildlife comes around and very protective of their flock. Don’t leave your livestock unprotected – if you’re interested in getting a puppy, please call or email. We’re certain that interest will be high, so be sure to get your deposit in right away.
We planned for early spring lambs this year, and so far everything has gone really well. We should have some very nice lambs for sale this Fall. Again, demand is extremely high, so call early to make sure you’re not disappointed.
Coming soon, we hope to introduce a new Fauna and Flora section to our website, detailing all the wonderful wildlife found throughout the property’s micro-ecosystems. A new Poultry Journal will be posted soon under the Fun & Information section, as well as additional general sheep health information in our Sheep Health section.
Please call us for more information on our Dorpers and current breeding stock availability. We welcome inquiries from new and returning clients alike. Look forward to meeting you in 2010!
